Introducing Health Scout
Health & Wellbeing -Empowering member health with Health Scout®
Health Scout is our simple and innovative new tool designed to help our super fund partners support their members’ health through early intervention and preventative health checks.
Why is it important for Australians to check their health?
A range of chronic health conditions can be prevented through early intervention, but the reality is that many Australians put off getting their recommended health checks. This can put them at greater risk of suffering a serious illness, as well as increasing the volume and severity of insurance claims – particularly due to conditions like cancer and heart disease among people aged 46–55.
TAL’s Health Scout tool can help members better understand their health risks and empower them to take preventative action.
Our Health for Life philosophy
TAL’s Health for Life philosophy provides a framework for the health guidance and services we provide to members during the three phases of their insurance journey:
- Healthy Living. Helping all members improve their physical, mental, and financial wellbeing, even if they never need to claim.
- Claims Support. Providing tailored health support for members when they make a claim.
- Empowering recovery. Improving health outcomes for members following their claim.
What is Health Scout?
Health Scout encourages members to get informed about their health, check for potential issues, and take proactive steps towards prevention, with a focus on common risk areas like breast cancer, skin cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and bowel cancer.
The tool supports all members, regardless of their age or current health status, by providing personalised health insights and recommendations. Our fund partners can leverage Health Scout to engage their members and support them to live healthier lives.
How does it work?
Health Scout follows a user-friendly journey to engage members on their health by completing a simple online survey about their health status and lifestyle. The survey takes around 3 minutes to complete.
Based on the member’s results, Health Scout provides evidence-based, clinically approved, and holistic health guidance that is personalised to the member’s specific health circumstances.
After completing the survey, members receive the following feedback:
- Those who are doing well with their physical health are encouraged to maintain their good practices and given access to relevant content and health tips.
- Members with health improvement opportunities receive recommendations and options for taking action or considering a health check.
- Higher-risk members are encouraged to get physical health checks based on their specific risk factors.
Are the member’s health results recorded?
Members who take the Health Scout survey aren’t identified, and their responses are completely anonymous. We don’t collect any of their health data and the results don’t affect their cover in any way — and we make this clear to members throughout the process.
As the member’s life insurer, it’s enough for us to know that the member has a better understanding of their health situation and is encouraged to undertake a health check if needed.
What are the benefits for super funds?
- Improved health outcomes. By identifying and addressing health risks and encouraging members to get health checks if needed, Health Scout can help members achieve better health outcomes and could also prevent the onset of chronic conditions.
- Increased engagement. Health Scout provides a simple, digital-first approach to health awareness and management, helping to boost members’ engagement with their super fund.
- Stronger member relationships. By offering valuable health support and guidance, super funds can strengthen their relationships with members by demonstrating a commitment to their overall wellbeing.
When will Health Scout be available?
We recently piloted Health Scout internally across TAL, with over 40% of our ~3,000 employees engaging with the tool to better understand their health circumstances and risks. The tool is now live with one of our partner funds, and we’re excited to make it available across our broader partner community throughout 2025.
